UPDATE: CAMPUSES OPEN ALL DAY ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29

PG&E has provided new information to the District, and it now appears there will be no power outages impacting the District or the colleges on Tuesday, October 29.  As a result, College of San Mateo, Cañada College, Skyline College and the District Office will be open and operating for all day and evening classes on Tuesday, October 29.

Disregard earlier notification (Communication #3) regarding evening class cancellations and campus closures.

CAMPUSES OPEN DURING DAY ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29; NO EVENING CLASSES

PG&E has restored power to the District Office, College of San Mateo and Skyline College.  However, PG&E is planning an additional round of outages that are anticipated to impact these locations again on Tuesday, October 29. 

As a result, the District Office, College of San Mateo and Skyline College will be open and operational during the day on Tuesday, October 29.  Classes that begin after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, at College of San Mateo and Skyline College are cancelled. 

In preparation for an additional power outage in the evening on Tuesday, October 29, the District Office, College of San Mateo and Skyline College operations will be suspended and campuses will close on Tuesday, October 29, at 5:00 p.m.  This suspension of operations will continue until 4:59 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. 

Depending upon the duration of the PG&E power outage, the District may extend or cancel this halt of operations.  Decisions about further closures will be made and announced by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29.

IMPACT

College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office are expected to be in a new round of power outages beginning on the evening of Tuesday, October 29.  At this point, Cañada College is not impacted by the power outage.  The District has no control over this issue, and outages are subject to change by PG&E.

The closure of College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office applies to all functions, including classes, activities, events, games, performances, SMAC, construction activities and any hosted functions.  During this closure, no employees, students or members of the community will be permitted to be on the campuses, except for those employees who are required to report to work, as they are essential for emergency operations.

CLOSURE ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 28

Due to power outages, operations are suspended and campuses are closed at College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office on Monday, October 28, 2019.  This suspension of operations will continue until 4:59 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. 

  • Students scheduled to attend classesat College of San Mateo and Skyline College should NOT report for classes or other campus activities on Monday, October 28.
  • Employees scheduled to work at College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office should NOT report to work on Monday, October 28, except for those employees who are required to report, as they are essential for emergency operations.  Employees scheduled to work (but not reporting) at these locations will be compensated at their regular rate of pay.  Employees required to work (and reporting) will be compensated at a different rate and that information will be provided in a separate communication to those employees.
  • Employees and students at Cañada College should report to work and classes as scheduled as the Cañada College campus is not impacted at this time.

CLOSURE

PG&E has notified the District of planned power outages that impact College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office beginning tomorrow, Saturday, October 26, 2019.  In anticipation of these outages, the College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office will suspend operations and close all college and District facilities effective at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019.  This suspension of operations will continue until 12 a.m. (midnight) on Sunday, October 27, 2019.  Depending upon the duration of the PG&E power outage, the District may extend or cancel this halt of operations.  Decisions about further closures will be made and announced by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27.

IMPACT

PG&E has indicated that College of San Mateo, Skyline College and the District office will be impacted during this round of outages. At this point, Cañada College is not scheduled to be impacted.  The District has no control over this issue, and outages are subject to change by PG&E.

TASKS FOR TODAY

Faculty and staff are asked to complete the following tasks prior to leaving work today:

  • Shut down all computers, monitors and televisions
  • Power down any additional devices that can be powered down
  • Clear out personal refrigerators
